Listing 5.5 : central cannon vs single horse Instead of same direction cannon ,screen horse and sandwich ,to defend against the attack from cannon ,single horse is also one of the openings which are frequently used .

The characteristics of this opening are : each piece has his own root ( which means it is been protected ) ,the pieces are protecting each other ,defends itself before attacks the others .However ,its weaknesses are : central pawn is only protected by one horse ,the defense on central file is weak .
The single horse opening in ancient Xiang Qi manual usually used filed chariot .In 1950s ,it had extended to ranked chariot .
Conclusion :
Most of the time ,the sides who use single horse opening always suffer loses .So ,it isn't frequently used in practices .
